Jupiter's Slut Releases Autobiography, Masturbation Monday: A Shameless Experiment in Self-Love

Angel over flirty shoulder (1).jpeg

NEW YORK CITY, NY - Humorist and adult star Jupiter’s Slut released her first book, Masturbation Monday: A Shameless Experiment in Self-Love. It is now available for purchase at Amazon.com.

“The first question I always get is ‘why do you call yourself a slut?’” says author Jupiter’s Slut. “I call myself a slut because I was so shocked and ashamed by how much I liked making out with boys in high school that I started thinking of myself as a slut before I even lost my virginity. I’m reclaiming the word. For me, it means Shameless, Luminous, Untamed, Truth. I’m not ashamed of my truth anymore, I love sex. But that doesn’t mean sex is easy for me.”

41Hhk2FqMDL.jpg

“In particular, masturbation made me feel bad up until starting this project,” she adds, “Facing my masturbation demons was the impetus for the book. I wanted to document and examine pleasure and shame, so I filmed myself masturbating once a week for a year. During the entire filming process I continued to think this was a project about sexuality, but in writing the book I discovered this was a spiritual experience. I had deeply rejected myself as a woman and a sexual being based on the teachings of my church. I wrote this book as an act of unconditional love, the kind of love that's willing to look at the worst shame and accept it all. Self-love is sold as some airy-fairy thing, but what about those parts of yourself you wish didn't exist? How do you deal with those? That's what I've tackled in the realm of my sex life with Masturbation Monday.”

Jupiter admits she was ashamed of masturbation when she first started filming herself as research for her book. Jupiter’s candid, sometimes hilarious, and insightful true life story will resonate with readers from all walks of life. Masturbation Monday: A Shameless Experiment in Self-Love is an exploration of layers and layers of self-love through dissecting her own troubled relationship to the most literal act of self-love: masturbation.

She explains, “I hope ‘Masturbation Monday’ gives women wildly explicit permission to accept and love themselves in new ways, in every area of their lives. Masturbating was the easy part. Becoming a woman who can speak publicly about sex was the hard part, but I want to live in a world where a woman is safe to speak. How can we expect survivors to speak up when they’ve been harmed, when a strong woman can’t speak up when she’s in good health. Sexual shame hurts us all, and our silence hurts victims of sexual assault most. Sexual abuse festers in the dark and the silence, from the Vatican to Hollywood. De-stigmatizing sex makes the world a safer place, the best way to de-stigmatize it is to talk about it. And I do that in ‘Masturbation Monday’ with a delightful dash of humor, and a bit of naughty intellect.

29597290_10104826760824464_7490791719897569873_n.jpg

LOS ANGELES, CA - Grooby’s Marketing and Editorial Director Kristel Penn snagged two coveted XBIZ Industry Exec Award nominations this week.

“It’s an honor not only be nominated for an XBIZ Industry Exec Award, but to be nominated in two categories that hold such personal significance to me,” said Kristel Penn. “In both categories, my name is listed amongst people who are doing such important work in our industry and who I’ve long admired since I started my career over ten years ago. Win or lose, I am incredibly grateful to be recognized for my work and to share this nomination with so many titans of our industry.”

Penn is currently nominated for Community Figure of the Year and WIA Woman of the Year. Winners will be announced at the upcoming 2019 XBIZ LA Show at the Andaz Hotel.

In 2018, Penn served as the Managing Editor of Transformation Magazine, America’s longest running transgender lifestyle magazine. As Grooby’s Marketing and Editorial Director, she is also the Event Producer of the annual Transgender Erotica Awards in Los Angeles, CA. Earlier this year Grooby created a free bi-monthly digital magazine, Grooby Girls, to provide business resources, community news, and more to the trans adult industry.

In addition to Penn’s work with Grooby, earlier this year she co-presented an educational workshop at Catalyst Con to discuss how to destigmatize porn and its consumption, with a focus on detangling shame and sexuality through self-reflection and open dialogue. Most recently, she enrolled in an MA in Counseling program with the long-term goal of helping create safe and competent mental health services to those in the adult industry.

“Mental health awareness is a topic that has long been part of my advocacy work on a personal and professional level,” Penn added. “I want to use my life experiences, which includes both my privilege and marginalization, to help destigmatize the adult industry and help provide competent mental health resources for our community. I understand the great responsibility of having a goal like this, which is why I chose to enroll in a counseling program this year. I wanted to ensure that anything I’d potentially implement would be competent, safe, and sustainable.”

In 2017, Penn won the XBIZ Industry Exec Award for Brand Ambassador of the Year. In 2018, she was nominated for Marketing Executive of the Year. To learn more about her, visit IkigaiMarketing.com and Grooby.com. Follow her on Twitter at @Kristel_Penn.

Siouxsie Q’s Mermaid Musical “Fish Girl” Swims North to Portland

Mermaid Piggy Tub wm-2-41.jpg

PORTLAND, OR - Following successful runs in New York City and Los Angeles, the multi-talented Siouxsie Q is heading to Portland next month to perform her critically acclaimed mermaid musical, Fish Girl. The upcoming production hits the stage as part of the Come Inside Festival that runs from October 4-7, 2018.

“I've been working on this play throughout my entire career in the adult industry, the first songs came to me nearly the same week I first had sex for money,” explains Siouxsie Q. “While the songs and the story have stayed essentially the same, the nuances of the work has grown by leaps and bounds as my career and my relationship to the sex industry has evolved.”

Described by BroadwayWorld.com as “on the cutting edge of fantasy,” “Fish Girl” is the poignant and entertaining story of an enchanted mermaid plucked from the sea and doomed to sing for her supper. This unconventional fairy tale sings the story of a lovestruck tourist who falls into the deep end when he meets the “girl” of his dreams. The original production is a fully-realized dream on stage created by Siouxsie Q and Sean Andries. Written and performed from the perspective of a sex worker and the one who loves her, “Fish Girl” serves as an allegory for our current state of affairs and exposes the deeply personal stakes of sexual politics.

RenderedImage.jpg

“We workshopped and premiered the show at Portland's Fertile Grounds Festival in 2012, and we are so pleased to bring this re-vamped version back to where it was born,” explains Q. “Additionally, we have been blessed with the opportunity to collaborate with my longtime friend, Penthouse Pet, and fellow member of the APAC Board of Directors, Olive Glass, who has released a brand new set of illustrations that will be premiered on an antique slide projector as part of the show.”

“Fish Girl” received the “Best of The Fest” Award at the 2013 San Francisco Fringe and hailed praise from outlets like the San Francisco Chronicle and SF Weekly. The show will be held at the Coho Theater on from October 4-7. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at this link: https://www.merctickets.com/events/57360605/fish-girl-oct-4-7
